Description
Ban Sabai is a part of the successful hospitality group which operates the Xayoh Restaurants in Vang Vieng and Vientiane, the Kop Chai Deu Pub-Restaurant in Vientiane, Green Discovery eco-tours and lodgings all over Laos. It was one of the first high end accommodation options in town, but is now dwarfed by neighbouring Elephant Crossing and Vansana Hotel. Ban Sabai has kept its charm whilst those around it were pouring concrete. It remains one of the more refined higher end accommodation options in town. In a stunning spot on the river, the bungalows are comfortable and attractive. Unless you're really stretching your budget, it's worth upgrading a few extra dollars to stay in the VIP rooms when available, as they have extra balcony and room space, bonus toiletries and a great bathroom with bathtub. While not expansive, the grounds consist of well kept lawns and rockeries with a large red-brick restaurant terrace. The only anomaly is the unfenced, steep-sided, pond full of dirty green water next to the terrace. At best it's a blemish, and at worst it's a hazard to children and drunkards.

Solitude amidst the bustle - ![]()

This place offers refuge for those seeking solitude from the ridiculously loud music and carnival like atmosphere in town. If you want to visit Vang Vieng for its plethora of activities but are not in the least bit interested in Casino Royale in the evening; this is the place for you. An early breakfast in the hotel is highly recommended. Catch the spectacular view with your cuppa of Lao coffee.

Excellent bungalows in a great location. Easy quick walk to town and restaurants (even though the restaurant there was great and same price as those on the main street). A nice escape from the Happy Pizza zoom.

Gorgeous bungalows with modern amenities, friendly staff and located away from noise of the main strip but within very short walking distance. Great views of river and mountains (quite spectacular at sunset). Fantastic value. Very minor improvements such as stronger shower heaters and better sound proofing would have made it perfect.

After 3 weeks in the south our arrival in Vang Vieng was a bit of a shock. It was fantastic to be able to take in the best of VV's surrounds, but escape to this riverside refuge and have a quiet drink as the sun set over the mountains. Food was really good, staff were helpful, and it was quiet & clean. Definitely a good place for a couple of nights, and gets you well out of range of the bizarre tv bars and their patrons!

Thavonsouk
Riverside, Vang Vieng
Staff are very helpful at Thavonsouk, and they speak both English and French. The grounds are tucked away down by the river, between the Villa Nam Song and the Elephant Crossing, and is a much more attractive and unassuming option than either of its neighbours. Rooms have a variety of features,... more
Villa Nam Song and Le Verandah Restaurant
Vang Vieng
The long-running Hotel Nam Song has been reinvented in the past two years, and emerges as the Villa Nam Song boutique hotel, and is now one of Vang Vieng's more elegant places to stay. The rooms are not overstated, with dark hardwood floors and furniture, crisp white sheets and silk pillowcases. ... more
Vansana Vang Vieng Hotel
Riverside, Ban Sisavang, Vang Vieng
In terms of facilities, Vansana can tick more boxes on the checklist than any other hotel in Vang Vieng. The centre-piece is the swimming pool. In a shady, airy spot adjacent to the pool is a gym with all the requisite machines. Add to this the Conference Room and Business Centre in the main... more
Elephant Crossing Hotel
Riverside, Ban Viengkeo, Vang Vieng
Another high-end offering right by the river, and along with the nearby Vansana Hotel, one of the largest. A four-storey block, the Elephant Crossing towers over its riverside neighbours, the Thavonsouk and Xayoh Bungalows. This provides superior views of Nam Song and the limestone range beyond... more
