Malany Guesthouse
Reliable and central

What we say:
Malany has two spots in Vang Vieng: a four-level concrete building on the main road plus a wooden-roofed house in the centre of town. Regardless which one you go to, the selection of rooms and prices are nearly identical. Rooms are clean and comfortably furnished with wooden beds and firm mattresses, bedside tables, TVs and mini-fridges. Choose from arrangements of one, two or three beds and if you'd like air-con or only a fan. All rooms have clean en-suite bathrooms with hot water and paper-thin towels provided. We prefer the location on the main road, not for any reasons relating to the rooms, but because of the shared balconies and rooftop for a 360-degree view of the town, mountains, and river. Staff offer the usual services like bus tickets and tours.

Nice stay
This place is good value. We visited several other places in VV that were all overprised and not very clean. The rooms here were quite large, with clean bathroom. Only downside is the lack of windows to the outside world. Staff was very friendly.

Clean
Clean and central location. From here its an easy walk to anywhere in town including the tube rentals and the party island. Rooms were reasonably priced, clean, although the beds were very hard. The staff were friendly enough and we booked our bus ride to Vientiene through them with no problems. There are a few common areas that we made use of for evenings playing cards and having a few beers, and you can actually go right up on the roof for some nice views of town and the limestone cliffs in the distance. One thing to note: if you have a problem with stairs this might not be the best place because there is no elevator and the stairs about double the height of normal stairs.

Clean and a decent value
I got the Dbl AC with cable and my own bathroom for 80,000 kip. The room was clean, but not well lit. The bed was clean and hard as a rock. The bathroom was clean (and huge). THe staff was indifferent but did what you needed them to do. The location is great, right in the middle of everything. The views are also good, although they would be better on the riverside because you wouldn't have to gaze over rusted tin roofs to see the karst peaks.

good location and clean
I stayed here for a couple of nights - my room was clean with a/c and hot water but the place was a bit noisy at night (party-neighbours). It's located on one of the main streets so lots of cafes and places to eat around. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.

The best value on the trip!!!
$5 for this kind of room with this quality! We couldn't believe it. The room is worth every penny of it. When you sit on the fourth floor there's a stunning view of the city. The location of the hotel is also right on the city-centre. Great, great value for your money!

Value
hard to knock this place, it's clean and comfortable and good value for money - there was also free tea and coffee available in a little area on the second floor.

Good Selection
We decided to stay here based on the positive feedback from other Travelfishers. It is a good choice, right in town, clean, and good value. The best part was the views of the town and the mountains from the unfinished roof area. This was great for our overnight in Vang Vieng, but we would likely have selected a smaller place with more character for a longer stay. Double room with fan and hot water shower was $5. Air-con would have been $8.

Good Stay!
We stayed at Malany for 5 days in the beginning of January, 2006. The room was clean, though small ants were a problem- I would advise you not to bring any food into the room with you, or else seal it up really well. Great value for the price, and the staff were accommodating, but not overly friendly.

Excellent value
We had planned to stay outside the centre of town, but when the bus stopped in the driveway of this guest house and the owner offered to show us a room, we figured we might as well have a look. We were offered a twin room with a good fan on the top floor for $5 and we snapped it up - the room (in fact, the whole place) was very clean and comfortable and the bathroom was great. Each floor has communal balconies with views of the mountains (for the time being anyway!), and there is an unfinished rooftop terrace, nice place for a Beer Lao at sunset. The guest house is set back sufficiently far from the main street that noise from there is not a problem. The reception sells convenience items but does not offer meals (just walk next door or across the street). Note - the stairs are very steep, so if you have a problem with this, maybe ask for a ground floor room. Transport can be arranged - cars are a little expensive but are comfortable new Toyota Hi-Lux 4WDs.

Good guesthouse
A good guesthouse with comfy beds and the first really hot shower we've found in Laos. The room we had was huge and a good sized bathroom too. A considerably better guesthouse than a lot of the competition around it.
