What we say:

Well away from the tourist end of town and very much in the ‘burbs of Vang Vieng, Saphaothong is large, clean and cool. The two-level house has a handful of rooms with air-con or fan, and all have clean attached bathrooms with hot showers. Furniture is basic but functional with a small table, chair, and firm beds. A balcony on the front of the house overlooks the school across the road, and a smaller balcony at the rear of the house has a view of the spectacular landscape but nowhere to sit. Staff speak limited English but do their best to be friendly and helpful. If you're not impressed by the party scene in town, the more authentic setting with waving school children and free-range chickens might appeal.
