Description
A little out of town, the Vang Vieng Resort has large grounds dotted with fragrant trees and ornamental plants and is located in the shade of the mountains. Individual bungalows are well spaced on either side of the Nam Song, with bathroom and hot shower. Those on the right bank have been newly opened by the resort in 2006 after several years of non-use. A distinctive red suspension bridge ensures year-round access to both sides of the river, and also allows visitors to reach the mountains, and the entrance to Tham Chang, a very popular cave. A coffee shop is set on the riverbank, and just outside the grounds a number of local stalls selling papaya salad, snacks and drinks. To get into the centre of town a bicycle or motorbike would be advisable, but this simple, secluded resort is worth the walk.

Resort is just outside the town, easy to reach by walk ing, or with bicycle (recomended). Great place next to river and a few steps to the cliffs for trecking. If you like quietness (and a good night's sleep) don't mind simple but clean accommodation (bunglows have hote water) then go for it. USD 10/night/ room is good value for money. Breakfast not included. Restaurant is open late and closes early. But town with plenty of feeding options is not far. Staff is helpful, so management in general seems pretty hopeless (sad for this grat location). Would defintely stay there again.

When I stayed here I saw hardly any other guests. A lot of locals come to picnic on the grounds at the weekend. If you're looking for solitude then this place is great... especially early in the morning sitting on a roofed platform next to the river. Ideal for couples. It's about a 10-15 min walk into town or you can hire a tuk tuk doe about a dollar

It's a good 15 minute pleasant walk into the center of town. Bungalows are roomy if looking a bit tired. Staff is friendly. Breakfasts are cheap and good. Shower is extremely hot!!! Good value.

Across the river from Vang Vieng
Amiably eccentric Irishman Joe who owns May Lyn has built most of it himself, and he's still at it -- his most recent endeavour is a distinctive sauna set in the lush grounds he perpetually tends. The Farm is run by Mr. T, a charismatic Lao biologist trained in Bulgaria, and is located on the banks of the Nam Song, 4km north of Vang Vieng. The farm's mulberry plantations are fed on by the worms used to make silk and also used to make traditional Lao mulberry products, as well as a few less... more
Les Jardins de Vang Vieng
Moung Song Village
Newly built, Les Jardins de Vang Vieng so far has no real garden to speak of, but the location is right by the river and a bit of a walk from the centre of town, which shows promise. Run by the very organised Thavisouk Guesthouse, the wooden and bamboo bungalows are fan cooled, with a few pieces of... more
Champa Lao
Riverside and island in the Nam Song River, Vang Vieng
Champa Lao is one of two guesthouses on the main party island in the middle of the Nam Song, which is predominantly made up of shanty dance venues and chill-out bars, happily pumping out tunes until whenever the curfew happens to be. In early 2007 the bungalows were closed for repair. Their style... more
Otherside Guesthouse
Otherside of the river, Vang Vieng
Otherside Guesthouse is, unsurprisingly, on the other side of the river from the main part of town. Basic bamboo bungalows share bathroom facilities. Vang Vieng Eco-Lodge
Ban Vieng Samai, 7km north Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng Eco-Lodge is located on a promontory overlooking a bend in the Nam Song. It is probably one of the best locations available, but at seven km out of town, transport is needed unless solitude is preferred. Upstream of almost all of Vang Vieng's riverine tourism, visitors can witness how... more
