Vang Vieng Eco Lodge
What we say:
Vang Vieng Eco-Lodge is located on a promontory overlooking a bend in the Nam Song. It is probably one of the best locations available, but at seven km out of town, transport is needed unless solitude is preferred. Upstream of almost all of Vang Vieng's riverine tourism, visitors can witness how the Nam Song was 10 years ago before the tourists arrived. The riverside bungalows are spacious, inside and out, and tastefully decorated with natural fabrics. Bungalows are made primarily from timber. Even the bathrooms have timber walls and floors giving them a Scandinavian feel. Also of note, the full-size bath compares well with other, smaller baths found in Vang Vieng town hotels. Double rooms with shared bathrooms are available in buildings set back from the river, and tents can be hired and pitched anywhere in the grounds or by the river. Villagers from nearby Ban Vieng Samai still utilise the river for washing, fishing and other aquatic harvesting and recreation. The babbling of river water over rocks and children's laughter is the prevailing sound here, rather than the resonating bass bins of the venues downstream. Kayaks are available for rent at the Eco-Lodge, enabling guests to explore the river.Check rates around Vang Vieng best price guarantee!

Brilliant! Spot on hospitality and beautiful scenery
Staying at the eco-lodge, you can see why the Vang Vieng became such a tourist mecca, before it became so developed. Staying with the villagers at the Vang Vieng eco-lodge you get the best of both worlds. Six km outside Vang Vieng itself, on the banks of the river with the hills opposite, it's a beautiful spot and you can explore the village and meet all the local villagers. The owners can't do enough to help, and are only to happy for you to jump on the back of their scooters or in the van for a lift anywhere you want to go. The bonus is you can use all the 'facilities' of Vang Vieng, only 10 minutes away, then retreat back to the peace of the Laos village, play with the local kids and explore the river running outside your hut. It's great, one recommendation would be to pre-order what sort of food you want for the next meal plenty of time in advance and they'll be only too happy to cook you typical Lao cuisine.
