Saysouly Guesthouse

Quirky looking

The quirky looking Saysouly is set in an old building but it still offers good, clean rooms, with or without bathroom, and some of the cheapest air-con rooms in Vientiane. An attempt has been made to inject some atmosphere and most rooms are tastefully but simply decorated with polished wooden furnishings and attractive, understated bedspreads. Large windows provide a light and airy contrast to the dark parquet floors and let in a subtle breeze. The shared bathrooms are always kept clean and have hot water. The en suite rooms also come equipped with a TV and small fridge. Avoid the rooms around the reception area if possible, as it gets quite noisy here. The guesthouse has lots of travel information and staff are really helpful and friendly.

Good deal, comfortable - 2nd February, 2008
We liked this place. Our room was clean, as was the shared bathroom, and the bed was comfortable. They have chairs set out on the 2nd floor overlooking the street, and it was nice to hang out here in the shade and chat with other guests.

Adequate but not wonderful - 29th October, 2007
We stayed in a triple with shared bathroom $9, unfortunately next to the reception desk so was fairly noisy - don't have a lot of options with triples. Bathrooms weren't the cleanest and sometimes no loo paper. They provided towels and bottled water and they do have a laundry service. The upstairs balcony is pleasant. Location is great.

Decent enough - 14th February, 2010
We are a couple and took a windowless room with a double bed. The room was bland and characterless, and the walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but it was fine for one night. It was fairly large, reasonably clean, and the bed was comfortable. It was 90,000 Kip with shared bathroom. The bathrooms were decent, and the water pressure was great! The A/C in the room worked. Our room was #6, near reception. It was quiet enough. The rooms in the back were full, but they seem to be newer. The common area on the 2nd floor is a nice touch. Cover up for mosquitoes in the evening though!

Very basic but clean and acceptable - 11th September, 2008
I got the Dbl AC w/ shared bathroom for 80,000 kip. The room was very basic and worn (including the bed), but otherwise clean. Shared bathroom was nothing to write home about, but not filthy. For the price, its about what you would expect.

You can do better - 10th January, 2007
Staff adequate, English decent. Room sharing bathroom cheap. Room clean not a lot of space though. Bed was good and firm with decent pillows, no towels so have your own handy. Signs everywhere advising you to be quiet and travel guide also says how quiet the guesthouse is but this was not the case when we were there. Shared bathroom not very clean and always wet and only 2 bathrooms on a floor catering for about 8-10 rooms. Bathrooms not cleaned regularly. Flush western toilet with cold shower (the latter having decent water pressure). Had electrical outlet. Don’t know about bag storage but sure they have. No internet facilities but a row of internet cafés around the corner. No restaurant but some across the street and plenty in the area. Don’t know about laundry since we didn’t have to do any at that stage but sure they have. Bicycles and motorbikes are for rent. No international payphones that we saw but there are places that provide international call services. There is a balcony that has some chairs that is nice to relax in. Currency exchange is also available at reception and you can pay in Baht or Dollar. Laos has no ATMs! You can draw money from certain travel agencies but a bit expensive and they only give you Kip which is difficult to exchange for other currencies.

OK for the price - 13th July, 2005
Good location. I stayed in a double room with private bathroom and air-con. The room was large and clean, but a bit tired. The rooms are not terribly well sound proofed, so the noise from other residents is easily heard. I had a problem with overcharging for an air ticket but got the money back by staying calm and non threatening. I could have avoided this by walking round to Lao Airlines myself but was being lazy -- I should have known better.
