Dragon Lodge

Clean and colourful

Dragon Lodge is a colourfully painted building with a dimly lit restaurant on the ground floor, and light, airy rooms above. The restaurant and bar combine to produce a really relaxed and comfortable environment, though it does get quiet during the day. The rooms are clean, with carpeted floors and attractive furnishings, and most rooms have cable TV. The air-con rooms on the ground floor open onto a shared terrace but as it's next to the road, it does get a bit noisy. The restaurant also has a noticeboard to help with plans for your trip around Laos. All the staff are quite young and might not understand what you say, but they are eager to make you welcome.

expensive but worth it
Stayed here only 1 night because it was booked out! Expensive, but very clean and modern room.

Overrated - 21st March, 2008
The room was clean and the bathroom was really nice. However, the room fan was so noisy we could barely sleep. And despite the ceiling fan and vent fan both being on simultaneosly, the room still felt stuffy, a good few degrees hotter than the hallway. On the wall of the hallway is a notice board with letters from customers who just loved the service and friendly staff, so perhaps it was just us who found them a little cold and unfriendly. They delivered our laundry half a day later than expected - not good if you have early travel!! The charges for Cambodian Visas at reception are way too high ($40 same day), and you can get it in 1 day at the Embassy yourself($20).Just drop in your passport with 2 pics in the morning and pic it up in the afternoon. Oh, and they accept kip or baht too. (I was quoted 220,000Kip). The overnight bus tickets are also 15,000K cheaper at a travel agency.

Stayed 3 nights - 18th February, 2008
The city was booked out and I got the last fan room on the ground floor. 150,000 kip. Room was clean but the trash can in the bathroom had not been emptied, not a problem. Very clean. I never ate there nor did I ask the staff for help. I felt it was good value.

You can do much better... - 21st June, 2007
Whether or not you like this place will depend on the (often volatile) mood of the owner/manager. He can act gracious and charming...or he can be a real nightmare. After leaving one piece of luggage there for 4 days while I visited Luang Prabang, I returned to retrieve it - only to be told I would have to pay for one night's stay to get it back! This - along with the constantly rising room rates and the dubious nature of the staff - should have you looking for somewhere else. For less money, Riverside Guesthouse has a great location and staff - and they don't rip you off!

Consistently good - 28th October, 2006
Just stayed at Dragon again. Never fails to satisfy, the manager is so helpful, the staff quiet and efficient, the rooms clean and adequate. Good water pressure in the bathroom, cheap laundry services.

Comfortable and safe - 28th September, 2006
I have stayed at Dragon Lodge several times in the past three years. I have always foudn it to be clean, safe and quiet. The manager is extremely helpful with all sort of information and services for the guests. I especially like the lobby. The guest house is in a very convenient location. THE place to stay.

A little bit disappointed - 16th November, 2005
Paid US$18 for the air-con room but the bathroom is very small and the room a little bit dark. The all-male staff is very cute but more interested in playing games than helping you.
