Dated flashpacker guesthouse
On paper this is a fair deal for a flashpacker.
Rooms have all the small conveniences you would expect at this price: air-con, a side table and desk, mirror, plugs, flat screen TV with channels and a hot water bathroom that is passably clean. Shower curtain and a sink with a plug and countertop are added bonuses. However, everything is rundown and shabby. The air-con units are big, old, loud dinosaurs, towels are threadbare, spring mattresses have seen better days and some rooms have signs of water damage. Prices are significantly higher than other guesthouses and it’s the same price as one of our top picks Faa Apartment, located on the same street. Vayakorn House’s location is great and the staff are polite so it’s just fine for a night, but given the price, it does make a strong case for spending less elsewhere or splurging an extra US$6 for a room at their sister hotel Vayakorn Inn which is miles better.
