Description
This mid-range guesthouse has some lovely, warmly decorated rooms close to the centre of town. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and run the place as though it was a big hotel, probably due to the regular business visitors they receive. Although it might seem more formal than other guesthouses, the rooms offer good value for money, all having air-con, cable TV and hot showers. The guesthouse also offers breakfast for $2.50 per person, but no other meals.

The Vayakorn is a a good place to stay if you can manage to book a room. The rooms are definitely decent. In 2005 I tried contacting them via their contact email. Of course, when I got to the hotel they claimed there was a ''problem'' with the internet. This Feb 2008, I tried phoning them from Luang Prabang. No one answered the phone; this was in the early afternoon. I checked with a travel agent who told me a few other people had told her the same thing. They seem to play reservation games.

Everything is OK in this hotel. Comfort like a big hotel, spacious rooms and super clean. This is not a guesthouse, but a hotel without surprises. Recommendable.

Mali Namphu
114 Pangkham Rd, Vientiane
The wide, open entrance is an attractive introduction to this stylish guesthouse. The open-air courtyard outback lends a contemporary flavour to the otherwise traditional Lao design. The rooms here, around the courtyard, are definitely the best choice, with those on the left having a bit more space... more

Orchid Guesthouse
33 Fa Ngum Rd, Vientiane
The Orchid is one of the few places that really takes advantage of its great location right on the Mekong and as a result is understandably a popular choice. The rooms are tastefully furnished and even the smaller single rooms have been given a few nice touches to brighten them up. The fan only... more

Douang Deuane Hotel
Nokeo Koummane Rd, Vientiane
Douang Deuane is a large, fading typical Lao hotel that houses clean twin-share rooms with air-con, fridge, bath, balcony, safety deposit boxes and cable TV. A large breakfast is included in the price, and staff are friendly and helpful. It's ideally located in a quiet but central street just off... more

Phonepaseuth Guesthouse
97 Pangkham Rd, Vientiane
Phonepaseuth consists of two adjoined guesthouses on the small road behind the fountain. All the rooms are comfortable and pleasant with en-suite bathrooms, hot water and cable TV. You can choose to have the air-con on or not to save a few dollars. Not all the rooms have windows which can make them... more

Riverside Hotel
Nokeo Koummane Rd, Vientiane
A new, fresh and clean hotel just up from the Mekong. All the rooms are well furnished with either twin or double beds and all have air-con, fridge, huge cable TV and private bathrooms with hot water. Oddly, though, they seem to have decided that lime green is a colour that people prefer. There are... more

Haysoke 1 Guesthouse
083/1-2 Hengboun St, Vientiane
One in a small chain in Laos this is by far the friendlier and better of the two in Vientiane, occupying a very central location close to the Lao Cultural Hall. As with many other places, the rooms with shared bathrooms are the least attractive and the smallest. The best rooms here are the bigger... more
