The Khamkhoun, set in an attractive wooden building with a terracotta-tiled roof, is in a very busy location just up from the bus station. Nevertheless, it is probably one of the most charming in this area and the rooms are well sound-proofed from the traffic noise on Lane Xang Ave. All the rooms are of a good size, tastefully decorated and have cable TV, air-con and hot water. Although the Thai visa office has now moved from across the road, this is still a popular and convenient place for those who come here to renew or obtain visas. Though it seems a bit removed from Vientiane's attractions, it is only a short walk to Victory Gate, That Luang or the morning market and would be a Francophile's heaven as it is just across from the cultural centre. The downstairs restaurant is open from 07:00 till 22:00 and attracts a regular custom. Breakfast is included.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. For mid-range hotels and up, always shop around online for a competitive rate. Click here to find out more about what makes Travelfish different with regards our accommodation reviews.
