Youth Inn
Backpacker magnet on the waterfront

What we say:
The original Youth Inn location, this bright green guesthouse set right on the riverfront attracts a steady stream of backpackers. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and the price is right, but not all have a window and can feel a bit gloomy. All rooms have attached bathroom and towels, soap, and even drinking water are provided. The adjacent Sabaidee Cafe is the unofficial hang-out of people staying here and has comfy seating, tasty coffee and snacks, plus free WiFi for customers. A new Youth Inn is located a bit further down Fa Ngum and, although prices are the same, it's got a fresher feel to it.

bedbugs and slow/restricted wifi !
s/d for 50k Kip in Aug room: seemed clean, shared bathroom / hot shower (not working) / western toilet, blankets, towel, soap, toilet paper, fan, mosquito net on windows (but really miss one for bed or some repellent), ?optional A/C, free wifi (captive portal with individual login/pass, no key, seems filtered - no ssh, torrent app crashing/blocked & very slow & uptime limit ?12h ... - others outside wifi networks could be accessible and better), power outlet (1), no trashbin, a bit noisy outside (especially if you are on the street & on morning), bus/visa service, laundry 10k/kg, checkout 12h after a few nights, suspect bedbugs

Basic but clean
We stayed here for 3 nights in July. After looking at some of the other budget optons near by this one stood out as being nicest and the cheapest. We payed 60,000 kip for a double with fan so can't comment on the A/C as mentioned in the previous review. The room was clean and spacious if a little sparse - but you get what you pay for. Provided with clean towels, toilet paper and soap. Staff are friendly and helpful. Cafe downstairs does good sandwiches.

Clean, but A/C doesn't work
We are a couple and paid 100,000 kip for a basically windowless room with a private bathroom on the 4th floor (Rm. 407). No complaints really. It's quite clean, they provide towels, toilet paper, soap, and even a bottle of water. The beds are decent. There is a hot water heater if you want it. But... The A/C didn't work. Well, it worked, in that it turned on and blew air around, but it wasn't cold air, even after it was on for almost two hours. We notified reception and they said they'd send someone up. A couple of hours later, nobody had come, so I asked for a different room. We went into room 304. Nice room but... guess what, no cold air from the A/C. Maybe other rooms actually work, as there were lots of travelers staying there, but we didn't have any luck. We left after one night because of this problem.
