A well-located and affordable spot, the Youth Inn attracts a steady stream of the backpacker set. Rooms are quirky with a huge -- but empty -- built in shelving space (so you can display your souvenirs?) but are otherwise clean and functional, if not a bit perfumed by the restaurant downstairs which serves a variety of Lao and Western favourites. All have en suite bathroom with hot water and parquetry flooring. The real draw here is the cafe on the corner below the inn, Sabaidee Coffee, which serves fresh coffee, fruit shakes and pastries. Just across from the river, it makes a lovely morning stop before heading out to the sights and also offers WiFi for 15,000 kip per hour.

By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. Clean, but A/C doesn't work - 14th February, 2010
We are a couple and paid 100,000 kip for a basically windowless room with a private bathroom on the 4th floor (Rm. 407). No complaints really. It's quite clean, they provide towels, toilet paper, soap, and even a bottle of water. The beds are decent. There is a hot water heater if you want it. But...
The A/C didn't work. Well, it worked, in that it turned on and blew air around, but it wasn't cold air, even after it was on for almost two hours. We notified reception and they said they'd send someone up. A couple of hours later, nobody had come, so I asked for a different room. We went into room 304. Nice room but... guess what, no cold air from the A/C. Maybe other rooms actually work, as there were lots of travelers staying there, but we didn't have any luck. We left after one night because of this problem.
