What we say: 
Banana is probably the largest budget operation on Chulia, most likely due to the fact that this is where the minibuses will drop you. Bathrooms and bedrooms are clean but the downstairs rooms are cell-like. Staff at the check in and tour desks are abrupt and range from aggressive to indifferent. Free WiFi is available but otherwise internet is 3 ringgit per hour and terminals dot the restaurant. The menu is limited and it's probably wise to go out for food. If you are too tired to be bothered with walking around when you arrive then this is not a bad place for a night but chances are you'll want to move on after that.

Ok for a couple of nights
I stayed at this place because we didn't find anything else acceptable. We could choose from a room with private bathroom and one with shared bathroom - which isn't really a bathroom, just a shower inside the shared toilets, and it wasn't very clean. Both rooms didn't have windows so we opted for the one with the bathroom. It was a bit cell-like, but clean, with a comfortable bed, air conditioning and a functioning bathroom (hot water, good pressure, no smells). The staff told us that we could have a nicer room the next day, but after having to wait until after 11 am we were told that we couldn't change after all. They were quite indifferent but not rude. Breakfast so-so. Internet 3 RM per hour, sometimes slow (there are better options close by). Not very atmospheric to hang out in the common space. Laundry service was fast and ok (they supposedly use hot water). Their primary goal seems to sell tours and visas. Conclusion: Ok for one or two nights if everything else is full.
