JB's only backpacker accommodation, this hippy hideaway won't win any points for tidiness but its homey vibe and low prices keep travellers coming back for more. The funky 70s-styled house has a four-bed dorm (no bunks) and a big private room with a double bed but little else. There's a kitchen, book exchange and a big garden to kick back in and enjoy a couple Tiger beers. Your host is the affable Hakimi, a music-loving native of Borneo, and his menagerie -- the roosters will ensure you're wide awake in time to catch that early bus. Footloose Homestay isn't in the city centre, but it is an easy 10-minute walk from the Kota Raya bus terminal or a 7 ringgit taxi ride. They could benefit from a better sign, but it sort of says Footloose Homestay on the front gate.
