Matahari Lodge
A solid performer

What we say:
This is a well-run guesthouse with a reputation for providing decent quality backpacker accommodation. The rooms may be on the small side, but the beds are solid and comfortable, and the decor pleasant. The singles are particularly good value for money. Matahari's communal areas are another plus, especially the small, verdant balcony. Location-wise, it's on the edge of Chinatown, although still conveniently placed for Central Market, Petaling Street and Pasar Seni LRT station. All dorms/rooms have air-con. The only problem could be noise from the nearby bus station. Rates include a simple breakfast, hot drinks and WiFi.

Friendly, good location
I stayed here a couple of times recently and agree with the previous poster about how noisy it is. The only place I noticed any traffic noise was on the communal balcony. The location is very convenient for getting around KL and getting to and from the airport. The nearest LRT stop is a couple of minutes walk away and is just one stop from Sentral. The rooms are sparsely furnished with just a bed and a small locker in rather small windowless rooms but they're clean and the mattresses are good. They're OK if you just need the room as somewhere to sleep rather than hang out in. The shared hot water bathrooms are kept quite clean and there seem to be enough of them. The staff are very friendly and efficient and the place has a nice laid back atmosphere. Matahari Lodge is deservedly popular and was full both times I was there, so it's probably best to book in advance. All in all, a very decent choice for budget travelers in KL.

Good option
We stayed here for a few days and would recommend it. Nice rooms, and good communal areas. The staff are really friendly and happy to help or offer advice. The location is good - just on the edge of china town (only 2 mins from the action), and right across from the LRT station. As for noise from the bus station - I didn't hear it. Free wifi & brekkie a bonus. Will stay here the next time I'm in KL.
