What we say:

This long-running backpacker haunt has been acquired by neighbouring Johan Hotel and a lot has changed. Most of it is an improvement, including a fresh coat of paint, renovated bathrooms, comfy new beds and TV and air-con in every room. Our favourite features are still there, including the rooftop lounge, library of travel guides, guest kitchen and a funky loft roof for guests who don't mind scaling a ladder with their luggage -- but the mellow hippie vibe and the backpackers are completely gone. While it's still pretty good value, we have to admit we liked it better before. Rates include WiFi.

friendly and fun

stayed here for 4 nights in a small single room for only 20 rm. loved the atmosphere, everything was very clean and the staff friendly. great chilloutarea and nice terrace. when I stayed there, the cafe was closed and there was no movie night, maybe because of low season? the location is about 15min walk from the main sights and chinatown (lot of restaurants and bars), which can be a bit annoying, especially when it is really hot (take the route through the ac-mall) or during nighttime. my camera and wallet was stolen in melaka (on st. pauls hill) so I didnt really feel safe walking around late at night by myself and had to take transport. can also recommend the eco-biketour they adverstise.
