Payung Guesthouse

Popular backpacker digs

What we say: 4 stars

Set on a compact block between the beach road and the mangroves, Payung is the backpacker favourite in Cherating, with a bunch of clean, quite well kept bungalows running back in two rows from the travel agency cum reception that faces onto the road. The bungalow we were shown had a bit of a funny layout, with the bathroom outdoors, but connected via a side curtain to the main entrance -- we imagine you'd get used to it quickly enough, and it certainly beats having to walk across the property for a shower. The room otherwise was clean and well kept. Free WiFi on site. Payung certainly appears to have the most proactive travel agent in town and they can organise everything from kayak hire and boat trips to bus tickets. Popular. Note they do not take reservations by email or phone; you need to book through their website. In high season we'd imagine a booking would be a good idea.
