An off the track option
Lot 3030 Jalan Batu Belah, Batu Bertangkup Kedawang, Langkawi T: (04) 955 1804, (017) 380 9029
As Langkawi’s Pantai Cenang becomes more developed, entrepreneurs shifted attention inland. They’ve created a variety of new affordable places to stay, amid mountainous backdrops of greenery and skylines devoid of massive developments. Dawn Homestay and Chalet is one of them. Boasting a simple design layout — reminiscent of the original Western motel style of the 60s — and complete with the obligatory swimming pool, it’s a good choice if you’ve got your own transport.
Located near Bukit Lembu behind the village of Kedawang, this latest off-the-beaten path Langkawi addition is nestled in paddy and within striking distance of the nearby foothills, making it perfect for hiking or cycling. For the less active, each of the bright yellow chalets has individual verandas overlooking a spacious pool area as well as a well manicured landscape that create those brochure-worthy images.
The roomy chalet rooms each have two double beds and enough space to easily sleep four. The rooms themselves are also well equipped, with an abundance of choice amenities that are pure luxury in comparison to the average budget motel and at just 130 ringgit per night, it’s a great bargain. WiFi, satellite TV, air-con and ensuite bath with hot water shower makes Dawn Homestay and Chalet an excellent choice, especially for small families.
Although Dawn has only been open a short while, they’re enjoying a steady stream of visitors. For those with transport, their location is just 10 minutes away by car or scooter from the beaches of Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah. Kedawang Tuesday Night Market is a mere five minutes’ away as well as a local grocery store, and various small fruit and vegetable stands dot the roadside in nearby Kedawang. A few small local restaurants are in the area too, so you’ll get your fill of nasi lemak and ikan bakar.
