Upmarket with prices to match
Arguably Besar's fanciest resort, what is beyond debate is that it's set on the island's most beautiful beach, a stunning eclipse of brilliantly white sand with turquoise water lapping at its edge.
Yes, the cliches come thick and fast here! The beach is known for a tribe of turtles that hang out in the waters, including one massive one lucky snorkellers will find often not far off the end of the bay's relatively new pier. There's plenty of shade to go around for all which is a good thing as guests and daytrippers are welcome on the beach. The resort itself is expansive with more than 100 chalet-style rooms well spread out over the grounds. The pick of the bunch are the oversized seaview suites, but they'll set you back a fair sized sack of ringgit and given you'll be spending much of your time on the beach, we'd opt for one in the second row, which is cheaper. There's a large restaurant and staff were very helpful. If this fits with your budget it is really difficult to recommend anything other than here on Perhentian Besar, but if this is pushing it, Coral View Island Resort has decent rooms which are a bit easier on the wallet -- and it is just a short walk to this beach.
