Summer camp vibe
Flora Bay is towards the western end of Teluk Dalam -- there is one resort after it, but it appeared to be abandoned when we visited (and Flora shouldn't be confused with the similarly named and similarly equipped Fauna Beach Resort next door, nor with Flora Bay Resort II on the far side of Fauna – we were told they're all run by the one extended family, who own the Flora Place hotel in Kota Bharu as well).
Freestanding bungalows are typical for the Perhentians, with steep roofs and small verandas, not many of which have much in the way of clear beach views. Nevertheless Flora Bay is very popular -- they told us they are full every weekend, which struck us as a very good reason for staying next door at Fauna. The pleasantly shaded beachfront area here includes a small floating pontoon pier, so there is a bit of speedboat traffic picking up and dropping off people. Sand is uber-fine around here and if you've got a lilo, exit the resort, turn right, walk 20 metres, throw lilo in and float all afternoon -- you're on holiday right?
