What we say: 4 stars

If you'd like to have a responsible ecotourism experience, this is the lodge for you. TERC is a small operation with just 10 A-frame sleeping cabins with mattresses and mosquito nests. The location is right along the river and there is a wooden deck for bird-watching or simply relaxing with a book. TERC has a zero-waste policy so all meals are brought in and all trash is brought out and there is no electricity. Rates do not include activities but it's just 40 ringgit per person to join the wildlife-watching cruises, which depart at 06:00 and 16:45. Additional activities like nature walks, cave tours and village visits can be arranged. The camp is operated by the KOPEL cooperative and money goes to support river restoration and orangutan habitat conservation. You can also contact them about volunteer opportunities. (Please note that we did not visit this lodge in person.)
