Bilit Village Homestay

Stay with a local family

No pic at the moment -- Sorry!

What we say: 3 stars

As an alternative to the touristy jungle lodges, it's possible to stay with a local family in the village of Bilit. Your accommodation will depend on who's willing to take you in, but you can expect a private room with a fan and shared bathrooms. The package price includes morning and afternoon river cruises and a night walk, plus you'll have opportunities to learn some Malay cooking and traditional dance. If you don't mind staying in a village instead of the jungle, it's a great way to support the local community. Additional nights are a bargain 50 ringgit per person and children get a 50% discount. Pick-up from Sandakan can be arranged. (Please note that we did not inspect the homestays ourselves.)
