High Street Inn

Ignore the posh-sounding name – this is a pretty typical Malaysian budget hotel with three floors of rooms with your choice of single, twin or double beds.

That said, for slightly more than a room at a backpackers' hostel you get an air-con private room and ensuite bathroom. We'd like to rate it higher, but the rooms we saw sorely needed some maintenance to address the dribbling shower, air-con stuck at one setting (too cold!) and ancient TV. WiFi is available and free, but the signal works best in the lobby. On the positive, the staff are friendly and the location is excellent with a few steps to Gaya Street and a five-minute stroll to the waterfront.
