If you're fussy about where you sleep, keep looking. The rooms at Scuba Jeff's are very basic with communal bathrooms you would not want to walk into barefoot, but it's the cheap prices and party atmosphere that make this a favourite with backpackers. During the day the open-air dining hall is the same as any other dive resort with buffet-style meals (and the occasional seafood barbecue) and sun-bathing guests, but after dark it becomes Mabul's party place, with acoustic jam sessions and a steady flow of Filipino rum from the bar. Scuba Jeff's parties hard but also takes diving serious with fun dives around Mabul (100 ringgit per dive or 3 for 250 ringgit), PADI courses and underwater photography lessons. WiFi is available from 18:00 till 06:00 when the electricity is on. Prices are as low as it gets, but it's worth emailing them about discounted multi-day diving packages.
