One of the more expensive options in Miri, the Park City has many good points -- one of them being that it is not as expensive as the Marriott next door, but still on the same stretch of beach. That's not to say that the beach is anything special and if you know what's good for you you'll avoid swimming in the sea if at all possible -- some cases of heavy metal poisoning has been known to occur to people swimming in the sea around the Miri city area. If you really are hankering for a swim then head into their pool! It's a good size and mostly empty. The hotel itself looks pretty grand from the foyer, all marble and chandeliers, but you will find the rooms and the service do not match the decor's aspirations. Situated a little bit further out of town, if you want to pop anywhere in town, you will have to get a taxi and this will cost you around 10 to 15 ringgit. It's possible to walk but it'll take a good 45 minutes. Most rooms are either a double or a twin and are reasonably decorated; some rooms look a little worn around the edges but are very clean. Toiletries and all amenities you'd expect of a big hotel are included here. The beds are super comfortable and if you get a room overlooking the pool (seaview room), you will get a spectacular vista at sunset. All in all, this is a low-end big hotel and if you've spent the past six months sleeping in dorms and are pining for a little bit of luxury that won't break the bank, then this is well worth a stop in.
