Always a smart choice, The Travellers' Lodge is long-running and professional -- we stayed here twice, roughly one year apart, and loved it both times. It might not look like much from outside, as it's simply a set of stairs leading to the space above an Isuzu dealership, but the rooms and shared bathrooms are spotless, the common areas cosy and welcoming, and the prices are hard to beat. Accommodation ranges from basic fan rooms to air-con suites with attached bathrooms, plus a unique single loft room for solo travellers who don't mind scaling a ladder with their backpack. There's a communal kitchen, a living room with a small library and loads of travel information, and a Halal cafe (no bacon with your breakfast set) with internet and a nightly movie at 21:00. They don't sell alcohol, but will allow you to purchase it elsewhere and drink on the rooftop terrace until 23:00. Travellers' Lodge is consistently top-rated and fills up fast. They don't take online reservations, so try to call in advance or show up early with your fingers crossed.

Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. Travellers' Lodge reviews

friendly and fun - 25th November, 2009
stayed here for 4 nights in a small single room for only 20 rm. loved the atmosphere, everything was very clean and the staff friendly. great chilloutarea and nice terrace. when I stayed there, the cafe was closed and there was no movie night, maybe because of low season? the location is about 15min walk from the main sights and chinatown (lot of restaurants and bars), which can be a bit annoying, especially when it is really hot (take the route through the ac-mall) or during nighttime. my camera and wallet was stolen in melaka (on st. pauls hill) so I didnt really feel safe walking around late at night by myself and had to take transport. can also recommend the eco-biketour they adverstise.
