Near the junction of Jonker St and the waterfront is Heeren House. There's also a gift shop and English café, and you'll have to pass through both before reaching reception at the back of the building. There are only six rooms here, and each has been thoughtfully laid out and decorated with Peranakan antiques and colonial furniture like canopied beds. Single, double, twin, and family rooms are available and all have air-con, attached bath with hot shower, TV, hot water kettle with sachets of instant coffee and tea, and a view of the Straits of Melaka. It's such a small guesthouse that you'll quickly get to know the helpful staff who provide personalised service and are highly knowledgeable about Melaka's history and landmarks. Rates include local taxes and a full English breakfast in the attached café.

By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms.
