The Eastern Heritage is a transformed 90-year-old house with high ceilings, intricate floral motifs, and loads of character, and offers some of the cheapest beds in town. The dorm is in the building's attic which is quite spacious and breezy and has single beds instead of bunks, making it hands-down our top pick of Melaka's dorm offerings. The private rooms are similarly basic with a bed and fan, and offer only a slightly higher degree of privacy as all rooms share bathroom facilities anyway. There's a small plunge pool for a quick cool down on scorching days, laundry service, and a bar and café on the premises. The staff are personable and helpful, handing out maps and marking places of interest, and even taking guests out on the town at night. Even though it's on an out of the way residential street, the location is deceptively central.
