Description
Singapore's InterCon adds a slight twist to the famed chain of modern business hotels, by catering for upmarket and business travellers and their needs in style with a distinct Asian flair. The hotel was built up from historic Bugis Street shophouses; preserving the façade and converting interiors into several wings of hotel quarters and facilities. Everything about the hotel from its lobby to its rooms and suites, hint at a palatial but subtle touch, complete with Peranakan features. Standard double and twin rooms are large and plush, furnished in a classic Asian theme: think dark wood frame beds, Oriental lamps and ornate mirrors. 'Shophouse' units, available as doubles, twins and suites, overlook a shopping street – while slightly more expensive than standard units and similarly sized, such units are configured and furnished differently. Parquet instead of carpet, and a generous filling of homely Peranakan furniture and art; all of which contributes to the feeling that you are living in an authentic Peranakan house once typical in this part of Southeast Asia, rather than a hotel room. Here is a first class business hotel with all the trappings and luxuries of modern living, for the nostalgic. A recommended splurge.
