What we say:
This 138-room hotel occupies a large but not quite imposing white building adorned with blue floral patterns amid a strip of restored shophouses on Mosque Street.
Full location points are awarded here: the hotel is a leisurely stroll from Chinatown MRT station, the Chinatown street market, Maxwell Road Food Centre and many several historic places of worship.
The Porcelain also gets full style points -- a dimly lit lobby is staffed by sharply dressed young women and boasts an intimate seating area, which doubles as the entrance to the luxurious Oriental Chamber day spa next door. With a contemporary edge, an all-white or funky mint green or indigo colour scheme and classy touches like ceiling lamps that look like Tang-dynasty porcelain plates, rooms are sophisticated, immaculately clean and equipped with soft beds, air-con, flatscreen TVs, mini-bars, coffee/tea makers, ensuite bathrooms with elegant ceramic basins and free WiFi.
The catch? Saying the cheapest rooms are small would be an understatement. The standard single comes in at a mere eight square metres and has enough space to sleep, stand, and store your luggage beneath the bed. The deluxe doesn't offer much more space, and the priciest premier and executive editions, while far larger, are still smaller than you might expect.
Still, Porcelain offers competitive value for such stylish and comfy rooms in this location. Keep in mind that the rack-rates listed on the website are higher than walk-in rates, and the best deals are often scored through Agoda.com.
