With its grand entrance hall, afternoon tea and classical pianist, the Goodwood Park is a trip into Singapore's colonial past. The castle-like building was designed as a club for elite German expats, but has been operating as a hotel since the 1930s. The superior rooms are elegant, if a little boring, while the suites are truly lavish and include in-room tea service and a fruit platter. There's a lush courtyard with two outdoor swimming pools and excellent dining options. It may not be as iconic as Raffles Hotel, but it is half the price. Check online for a competitive rate
