Five Stones Hostel
Artsy digs in a great location
What we say:
The name Five Stones pays homage to a Singaporean children's game and is a hint at what's inside this funky and imaginative hostel.
Air-con dorms feature six to 14 bunks with thick mattresses on sturdy steel frames and come in mixed or female-only varieties. Private double rooms are also available with TV/DVD players, but bathrooms are shared on each floor among all of the rooms. Every space was designed by a different local artist, with wacky murals and bright colours being consistent themes. The kitchen is called "Makan Corner" and has loads of info on Singapore's hawker foods while one of the six-bed dorms comes with a hop scotch court painted on to the floor.
Although not the cheapest hostel in Singapore, Five Stones represents good value thanks to many freebies. Guests can help themselves to a breakfast of cereal, toast and jam every morning from 08:30 till 11:00 and complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate and bottled water are available all day. There’s a strong WiFi signal throughout and several communal computers. For entertainment, kick back in the cosy lounge with a 40” TV, DVD collection, board games and a library. Guests also have free use of laundry facilities (just provide your own washing powder – or buy it there).
Five Stones is one of the few budget choices located near the Singapore River and the Clark Quay entertainment area.
