Budget hotel with a few surprises
What we say: 
Super-central Bencoolen Street is lined with hotels, but Hotel Bencoolen is a cut above its neighbours. A thoughtful lay-out and wall-mounted TVs maximise the compact space (the norm for this price range), and they even squeeze in a desk and mini-fridge. Cleanliness is very good and big windows let the tropical sunshine stream in and brighten up the room. They don't jack up their prices on the weekend (though they do offer weekday discounts) and rates include free WiFi and a hot breakfast in their chic cafe. Did we mention there's a fitness centre and small rooftop pool?
