Few things have changed at this Catholic-run hostel since it opened in 1980, but one is the end of the dorms. To compensate, prices have actually fallen and there's a private room to suit everyone from solo travellers to groups of four. Though the beds and facilities are old, the rooms are kept lovingly clean and all have air-con, TV and mini-fridge. Waterloo Hostel is incredibly quiet for its central location (it's a five-minute walk to City Hall) and its guests like it that way — go elsewhere for a party environment. Rates include a simple breakfast and internet use.
