The Old Palace Resort
A charming, village feel

What we say:
Eight white painted wooden bungalows nestled under the shade of trees in a graden setting give this place a hideway feel. Well maintained, bright and smart, rooms come with comfy beds, TVs, fridges, ensuite hot water bathrooms, free WiFi and air-con. Each bungalow has polished wooden floors and glass doors leading onto a small balcony. Just around the corner from Wat Na Phra Men, a tad north of the island and a good 20-minute walk from the bus and minibus stop, Old Palace offers a peaceful place to relax -- staying here feels like settling into a countryside village and it's a far more quiet and charming atmosphere than you'll find at most other guesthouses. Be sure to rent a bicycle and ride out further west past the paddy to Chedi Phu Khao Thong and Queen Suriyothai Monument. Old Palace has a friendly staff, an on-site restaurant, and Thai massage is available for 300 baht per hour. Our only gripe is that bungalows are perhaps a little overpriced and could use some minor renovations, but you won't find a setting quite like this elsewhere.

Overestimated
We stayed in a deluxe bungalow. We paid 990B per night but the room wasn't very clean (they didn't change the towels and bed sheets during our stay). By Thai standards, this an expensive place to stay. The breakfast was really very poor (only 2 slices of bread with coffee or tea).

Not really worth the price
I booked a chalet (they only have one in the entire place) but ended up in a bungalow, which we had to pay extra. THB790/nite is quite expensive for such a place. Nice setting, rooms were clean but furniture was quite old and worn. The breakfast provided was just 2 slices of toast with coffee/tea. Parking was available which was good but unfortunately it wasn't paved.
