What we say:

Tucked down a quiet soi behind Sherwood House, Promtong claims to offer "backpackers price, 5 star service". That's quite a stretch on either end but Promtong is a good choice for those willing to pay a bit more for a comfortable and quiet room to go with excellent service. Rooms are massive, clean, simply decorated and well equipped with air-con, fridges, flatscreen TVs, safes, desks, sitting areas, soft king-size beds and large, modern bathrooms. The deluxe and family room editions get you even more space. WiFi is free and the complimentary breakfast includes homemade crepes and organic yoghurt among its offerings. Downstairs is an inviting restaurant area and small reception, which when we visited was run by an exceptionally polite and helpful woman who speaks perfect English. At time of writing, the Promtong group are readying to open a second location called Baan Tebpitak, a 10-minute walk east down Pa Thon Road at Soi 3. It offers similar accommodation at slightly higher prices and has a large swimming pool, which can be used for free by guests at Promtong as well. If you don't feel like going that far for a dip, the pool at Sherwood House is just a few steps away.
