YHA Bangkok Downtown
The only budget choice on Silom

What we say:
This is one of the most sparklingly clean hostels we have ever seen, boasting luminous white interiors. The dorm is overpriced if you're travelling in a group, but for a single traveller wanting to stay in this area of town, it's not bad. All of the private rooms in this hostel are small, some bordering on miniature, and the entire building feels a bit cramped. If you're looking to mingle with other travellers, jog on as there are no communal areas. Friendly management says the larger private rooms are almost always full, so book those well in advance. A small internet cafe is located on the first floor. Internet rates are not available for walk-in customers or vice-versa. Also note that the hostel is not actually located on Silom, but around the corner on Narathiwat Rd. Best to walk from Chong Nonsi BTS; the hostel is just before the intersection with Silom.

What a disappointment!
We were very disappointed by this hostel and left after our first of three nights. We paid 780 baht for a double room with fan. The room was extremely small, just larger than the bed, and had a terrible smell of sewage that permeated from the bathroom to the bed-area. I asked at the front desk and they were fully aware of the sewage problem in the room they gave me. Fortunately, they had another empty room I was able to swap to.We got a terrible nights sleep and felt claustrophobic in the room. It was really, really hot, and the mattress was covered with a potty-training plastic cover which seemed to reflect the heat. I wouldn't recommend this hostel to anyone. It wasn't the worst place I stayed in during my 2 month travels, but it was certainly the worst Value. We swapped to hostel close to Siam Square and the Skytrain station for the stadium and are paying 1000 baht for a spacious room, A/C, breakfast, and friendly staff (Wendy Guesthouse). It's a bargain in comparison.

Great location
Hostel Thailand is about 3 minutes away by foot from the Chong Nonsi BTS station, which is great because the skytrain is the best way to get around Bangkok. The hostel itself is very narrow. There's about 3 rooms in each floor and two tiny bathroom/toilet. I've tried both the dorm and the single rooms. The all female dorm is a bit small for 4 people, with hardly enough space to manuever. The single room is adequate for one or two. The single room also have airconditioning, a tv and a small dresser. The matress is hard and the pillows almost flat. This hostel's saving grace is its location and its great staff who are very friendly and always willing to help out.
