Golden Bangkok Guest House
inexpensive, though not very appealing
641 Chakraphet Rd, Chinatown
Bangkok Province
Tel: (02) 225 3786
Description
Set down a short alley, amid a throng of sari merchants, the Golden Bangkok Guest House is an inexpensive, though not overly appealing option in the thick of Bangkok's Little India -- Pahurat. The 20 rooms are mostly windowless and, for the most part, characterless, and despite the place looking like it was due for a renovation some 30 years ago, it continues to draw steady numbers -- thanks to its proximity to the Pahurat markets. The adjoining Golden Bangkok Restaurant has a range of cheap Indian, Nepalese, Pakistani and Sri Lankan food.

768 Soi Panurangsri, Songvad Rd, Chinatown
This eight-storey guesthouse wins the prize for being Bangkok's trickiest place to find despite being easy to see from the river. The views from the restaurant are superb although the food is so-so and the rooms, though clean, are overpriced; the exception being the river facing rooms which have... more
MY Guest House
114 Phat Sai Rd, Corner of Songsawat Road, Chinatown
An old favourite for those who want to do Chinatown on a shoestring. Cold water showers are the norm here and don't expect a TV. The rooms are mostly windowless and feel a bit claustrophobic, but it's worth it if you're pinching pennies. The staff are friendly and English is spoken. The restaurant... more
