Shanghai Mansion Bangkok
Classy player with great Chinatown-style

What we say:
This stylish addition to Yaowarat raised the stakes for top-end accommodation in Chinatown when it opened in 2006, and continues to set the standard. The Mansion has 76 rooms, a restaurant and jazz bar on the third floor, and a Grand Ballroom on the top floor. The rooms are a feast for the senses — dark red drapes contrast with soft pastel walls, soft lanterns cast glowing light across rich textiles and dark wood furniture. Rooms have ornate four-post beds and spacious bathroom facilities. The downstairs plaza has a Chinese restaurant, a massage and spa centre and a supermarket. Though it's towards the eastern end of Yaowarat Road, rooms facing the street can still be noisy at night. Front desk staff are very helpful, and free WiFi and American breakfast are included in the room price. Signifigant discounts are available for booking online.

Great but expensive
Really liked it here. Originally planned to stay for 2 nights and extended it because it was so nice. The cheapest rooms are internal to the building and have frosted glass windows into the centre. This means no sunlight but also means they are wonderfully calming after being out on the streets. The hotel is, however, on the expensive side and when we returned to Bangkok we stayed at a cheaper hotel. Agree with the previous poster though - nobody seems to know where it is. It was a bit stressful to arrive jet-lagged at the airport, and then find halfway through the journey into the city that he had no idea where the hotel was!

big fun!
This place is a hidden gem in Chinatown! The design is really fun and beautiful! What use of color. Rooms ARE as they appear on their website, which is amazing. Smiling happy staff and great housekeeping. One complaint: the place is actually kind of ''hidden'' in Chinatown. Noone knows where it is and the website does not give a cross street or landmark. Once you have gotten there, the business cards have a map on the back in Thai that worked wonders with the cabbies. Make sure to pick this up asap. Lastly the restaurant is only open for breakfast and the toilets have no bumgun.

We loved it
We spent two nights in this wonderful hotel in the middle of China town. The rooms were great, clean, wonderfully designed. The staff was very friendly, helpful and chatty. We will definitely stay here again.
