Chinatown Hotel
Ageing mid-ranger

What we say:
The 75-year-old Chinatown has reasonable rooms with standard mid-range facilities: TV, hot water, air-con and minibar. Older, carpeted rooms can retain the smell of a thousand cigarettes — don't hesitate to ask for one of the newer, wood-laminate floored rooms. Deluxe rooms have multiple, tall tinted windows that have decent views, yet keep the room cool. The hotel is located at the eastern end of Yaowarat and is not as central as some of the other choices. Business travellers are well-catered for here — rooms have free in-room WiFi, IDD phones and safety deposit boxes. Breakfast is included.Excellent discounts are available for booking online, although they are likely to give you a walk-in discount if the hotel has a low occupancy.

Stayed a couple of times
We stayed in Bangkok 3 times during our recent trip, and twice we returned to the Chinatown Hotel. The main reason we stayed was the fact that prices were very reasonable for the room we got. Both times the rooms were reasonably sized, with a good clean bathroom, a/c and free internet access. The breakfast was pretty good as well and included in the price. One of the rooms had been refurbished with wood laminate floors and was better than the older style carpeted room which did smell a bit damp.
