New Central is another budget choice on chilled out Tanao Rd, offering a more relaxed vibe while remaining within staggering distance of the Khao San perma-carnival. The key to making the most of this place is to ask for a balcony room at the front of the building as the ones at the back are windowless and cramped. Rooms with balconies get great breezes, while rooms without windows can get stuffy during the hot season. If you get a room with a balcony on one of the higher floors you will get a great view of the shanty-town style neighbourhood and the golden stupa from a nearby wat. Mr. Charlie, the head of the family that owns New Central is very accommodating, allowing as many guests to crash in a room as you like, and negotiating prices if you wish to stay longer, if its really slow, or if you put forth some other reasonable argument.
