Good deal, but be careful - ![]()

I have stayed here many times. The rooms, with or without bathroom, are good value. One problem that has always been there and has, from many sources, got much worse of late is theft. Unfortunately, one of my mates had his room busted into and his laptop stolen even though he used a big padlock of his own. Clearly someone had to have access to bolt-cutters to break such a sturdy lock. Not a safe feeling. More of the story: NEVER leave valuables in the rooms (but that goes for anywhere really). Hopefully the lobby lockers are more thief-proof.

I've only stayed in the singles with shared bathroom at this place. It's where I stay every time I'm in town because it's the cheapest place around. The rooms are small and the bathrooms aren't the cleanest but the sheets are clean so think it's a great deal for 130 baht a night. Check out a few rooms before deciding though because some are bigger than others and have a fresher coat of paint on the walls.

First Guest House
149-151 Tanao Rd, Bangkok
Not much to look at from the outside, First Guest House nevertheless has spotless air-con rooms. The staff are quite friendly and it's located spitting distance from Khao San Road -- you could do a lot worse than here. It's a decent place to crash if you are passing through for a short... more
Sweety's Guesthouse
49 Rachadamnern Rd, Soi Post Office, Bangkok
Sweety's has clean rooms that are a little expensive, a tad dark and fairly small. Worth bargaining if business is slow -- which it often is. Some of the rooms are on the ground floor immediately beside the kitchen and dining area and lack privacy so ask for a room upstairs if you're at all shy.... more
New Central Guest House
81/1 Tanao Rd, Bangkok
New Central is only about a block away from Khao San, but the location is more Thai style than Farang, with kids on bicycles and families doing wash quite common sights. If you get a room with a balcony on one of the higher floors you will get a great view of the shanty-town style neighbourhood and... more
At Home Guesthouse
117 Tanao Rd, Bangkok
Clean and good service is actually their slogan, and they deliver. Very reasonable prices for quality, if simple accommodation with colourful bedding and bath tiles.
