Description
This professionally-run place is well-located just off the main Khao San strip and has fair rooms though many of them are very small. For the standard the prices are not unreasonable, but they're small and get a bit of noise from the bars outside. The dorm is a bit pricey and there have been a few reports of them being less than spic and span. The superior triple has a big refrigerator, but a tiny bathroom, although there was lots of soap and shampoo. There is also a popular ground-level common area, restaurant and bar. All rooms have discounts for stays of three or more nights.

Very shabby -
By marianwarren ( total comments: 13  More information please ) Stayed here 1/2007
Only stayed here 1 night. Wasn't worth the 1350 THB for the triple, very, very tired, bathroom door didn't lock. I'd go somewhere else.

Awful! A rip off! -
By nannons ( total comments: 6  More information please ) Stayed here 8/2003
The rooms are basic but functional for the price, the staff were ok but not overly helpful. THe worst part was the state of the toilets in the garden restaurant area - believe me if you ever smelt these you would never return!! The vilest smell I have ever encountered. Would never stay here again, especially considering you can pay significantly less money for a similar poor standard!

Not too hot -

Soi Rambutri has better values, if you want private bath/air-con. This place is impossible to find by taxi (because of its location down a dingy alley and the presence of five or so other sawasdee hotels in the area). Sheets were dirty -- stained with cigarette-burns -- but the staff wouldn't give us new ones. Also, woke up in the middle of the night to neighbours complaining about leaking ceilings. the rooms are tiny and look nothing like the pictures on the website. (see how the "single" and "double" pictures are actually the same photo, with a pillow added to make a double bed?)

Have you stayed at Sawasdee Bangkok Inn? What did you think?

Shambara Boutique Hostel and Restaurant
138 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
Shambara Boutique hostel is a refreshing breeze of friendly hospitality and pleasant surrounds. Hidden down a sub-soi towards the eastern end of Khao San, the location is reasonably quiet and although some of the rooms are on the small side, they are spotlessly clean and tasteful. Out the front... more

New Joe Guesthouse
81 Trok Mayom, Chakraphong Rd, Bangkok
Set towards the western end of Trok Mayom (the narrow alley that runs parallel to Khao San Rd), New Joe has a large, comfortable and quiet restaurant and a mix of quiet good value rooms. They have two buildings -- next door there is a small wooden house that has small basic rooms for under 200B and... more

Prakorb's House
52 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
This clean and quiet guesthouse has a surprisingly lovely little wooden house hidden behind the pretty plain street frontage. Doubles and triple rooms in the wooden house are very homey and have screen doors behind the wooden ones that give room breeze and more light. They are far superior to the... more

Mom Guesthouse
98 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
Mom Guesthouse is one of the better of a slew of new places that opened up around Khao San over the last few years. While not overflowing with character, Mom Guesthouse is absolutely spotless inside, and the polished wooden floors and immaculate share bathrooms make this great value for budgeteers... more

Siam Oriental Inn
190 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
One of the more brightly coloured hotels on Khao San Road, the Siam Oriental is a pretty reasonable option with a wide range of rooms catering for most budgets. The cheapest (and windowless) rooms are a bit on the dreary side, but they're all clean. A rare elevator is a blessing for those with... more

Kawin Place
86 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
Set off Khao San Road behind the Khao San Central Restaurant and Bar, Kawin Place is a reasonably quiet, very central location. The rooms are pretty well sized though some could do with a coat of paint to take a year's worth of fingerprints off the wall. The bathrooms are a little on the pokey... more

Nana Plaza inn
202 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
Nana Plaza Inn is set back off Khao San Road between the main strip and Trok Mayom to the south. Nana Plaza Inn's rooms are cleanish but a bit frayed at the edges and the beds are so uncomfortable they feel like they are full of sawdust. Try for a room up high to escape some of the street racket... more

Harn Guest House
140/1 Tanao Rd, Bangkok
Located down the last soi off Khao San Road at the Tanao Road end, Harn features recently refurbished rooms which are cleanish and quiet, though from the outside it looks very grotty. Beds are large, but with very firm mattresses, rooms on the front, e.g. 301, 401, are bright and airy, if noisy.... more

Sawasdee Banglamphu
162 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
All rooms here have air-con, hot water and cable TV and are clean, and bright if a little stinky. The staff are quite friendly though and the prices reasonable, but pushing a bit high considering what else is out there. Yet another of the Sawasdee Chains, this one is on soi Tanao opposite the... more

Dio Guesthouse
146-158 Khao San Rd, Soi Sawasdee, Bangkok
The awfully thin walls guarantee sleepless nights at the rather lacklustre Dio Guesthouse. The main plus here is their popular soi-side restaurant and movie zone -- a good area for meeting fellow guests (though you'll probably already know each other due to the very thin walls). Otherwise, rooms... more

Nat Guest House
217/219 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
Nat Guest House and Restaurant has a dozen rooms suitable for budget travellers. A decent street side cafe with internet and plasma TV for watching movies is a great place to chill out, meet up with friends, or have a... more

Budget Guesthouse
96 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
Located just off Khao San Rd, down the alley beside the large and very popular traveller's centre at Khao San Centre bar and restaurant, the Budget Guesthouse is set in a large multi-storey concrete building, with clean, moderate sized rooms, all with shared facilities and if you get one at the... more

Chart Guest House
62 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
Chart may have renovated their building, but they appear to have overlooked some of the rooms. Although they're ok, they remain disappointing considering the effort that was put into renovating the bar and restaurant. The rooms are big enough for a bed and a bag and with a coat of paint they would... more

Lek Guest House
125-127 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
Down a dingy soi running off Khao San Rd, Lek Guest House has small, clean rooms. While a decent budget choice, unfortunately the walls are kind of thin, so snoring neighbours or music from neighbouring bars could be annoying. If you are a sound sleeper then try to secure a room with a balcony... more

Top Guest House
126/1 Khao San Rd, Bangkok
All of Top's rooms, while pretty plain fare, are clean and reasonably quiet due to the hidden-away location on a soi between Khao San Rd and Trok Mayom. From the outside the place looks cute and cosy, unlike many generic guest houses in the neighbourhood. However, all the rooms are basically the... more
