What can only be described as a block on the outside, the Malaysia hotel fails to increase its aesthetic appeal once through front doors. The lobby seems to have been decorated in two halves: the first by a guy with a discount card for the local Thai-style furniture shop, and the second by his visually impaired grandmother who has a love for all things flowery. A popular coffee shop showing foreign TV does little but strengthen the American Motel feel to the Malaysia Hotel. After fighting through the hoards of elderly Western tourists, the clan of pretty faces at front desk offered plenty of smiles, but little in the way of professional service. Don't be fooled by the cluster of palm trees in car park, the only exotic thing about the Malaysia hotel is the Hawaiian shirt worn by the porter. If you really insist on staying here, take the deluxe room, they still smell of bleach, but are considerably better than standard or superior, both of which feature ancient bedding and furniture.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. Clueless front desk staff - 16th April, 2008
I wasn't expecting anything grand from a room that costs 838B so when my friend and I arrived at Malaysia Hotel we got exactly what we paid for, a clean room. I am never picky about bedding or linen either, I just want them clean even if it looks as old as some temple ruins in Ayutthaya. So since my standards are not that high, I have no complaints about this hotel's facilities. It's the front desk people who really irked me. They could not answer any basic queries that I had about getting around Bangkok and some famous locations outside of Bangkok. I came prepared, I had done my research and had put up my own travel itinerary months before I hopped on the plane. But still I had little questions that I was expecting (not just hoping) the hotel front desk people could answer since they are after all locals and working in a hotel where many foreign tourists stay. For every question I asked, their standard answer was: 'Hmm I don't know' and then they gave me that big flashy smile meant for stupid tourists who don't know their way around. To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. I was IRKED big time! I would have been better off asking elephants, they are more tourist friendly. Unfortunately, I will still stay there when I go back to Bangkok. (It's cheap, that's why!) I will just make sure that I don't ask questions.
