Description
Don't be fooled by the well-decorated, almost funky lobby. The rooms are blandly standard and have seen better days. All feature aircon and hot water and some have TV. The rooms smell extremely mouldy, but many have balconies that allow you to air them out a bit. The attached Reno Cafe is deservedly popular with reasonably priced food and a pleasant air-conditioned atmosphere. A smallish pool is on the ground floor. Rates include breakfast.

Like Kevincorr I habitually stay on this soi, but usually in one of the cheaper places. Spending 1,400 on a deluxe room is definitely a step up from my usual standard, which more often than not is the Muangphol Mansion just down the street.

I find the travelfish write up here less than handsome, the place is pretty good value in my opinion - 1,400 for a pretty large room with big bed, cable, aircon AND fridge, in that location, the place having a pool big enough to actually swim in, is pretty good.

Having had no luck finding a room in any of the other spots on this street, I got in here. This place was an odd mix. Rooms were totally adequate. No fridge but a safe box. Nice bathroom, comfortable beds, a basic patio. The pool was a nice break from the heat of Bangkok. The staff was very friendly, although not the best source of travel info. The hotel is close to mass transit - 5 minutes from two different SkyTrain lines and the subway - and right down the street from the maze of malls that is Siam Square. Prices quoted here are current. I would stay here again.

Nicest on the street. -

I think the reviewer is being harsh. We assumed they were renovating it from the front to the back. Even though our room was in the older part, it was still FAR FAR better than what we had at the A-One.

For the price, I give it an 8.

Still a good value -

Having a pool at this price is nice. Good bathrooms, and TV but no fridge. Best location in Bangkok.

My Favourite location. Safe in room is handy. Next door is the nice Soras Bar and Restaurant. Near handy khlong-canal taxi. Good laundry service. A step below neighbouring Asia Hotel.

Wendy House
36/2 Soi Kasem San 1, Rama 1 Rd, Bangkok
Wendy House has reasonable rooms with air-con and hot water, with perhaps the friendliest staff on Soi Kasem San 1. Downstairs a small cafe with half dozen internet terminals offer email service and snacks in a basic, but pleasant atmosphere. They have books for loan, including travel guides,... more

Muangphol Mansion
931/9 Soi Kasem San 1, Rama 1 Road
Located on the corner of Soi Kasem San 1 and Rama 1, the Muangphol Mansion was once a bright shining example of a decrepit looking firetrap, but it's amazing the difference a coat of paint makes. Aside from painting the outside, the rooms also got a bit of a spruce up, and although still pretty... more
