In business for over 20 years, the A-One gets lots of return custom and with good reason. The friendly staff creates a homely and welcoming atmosphere while the rooms are clean, although some are just off the lobby, and not particularly private. All have air-con, hot water and polished wooden floors. The rooms are small and nothing particularly special, but while some Travelfish readers have complained about worn linen, the room we were shown was in a pretty good state. The location is good and there are free lockers and a well-equipped internet cafe in the foyer for guest usage. This is a good backpacker option, and the A-One is often full. Perhaps because of this popularity, we've received many complaints of the hotel not honouring reservations -- especially among those who arrive later than their nominated time. The moral of the story is, if you're running late, call and let them know. One final note, don't confuse this guesthouse with the far larger A One Hotel which has a more prominent internet profile.

good value on Soi Kasem San 1 - 18th January, 2009
we recently stayed a few nights at A-One Inn, a great value for this part of the city. Rooms/bathrooms are on the small side, but the staff are super friendly. Disappointed to find that the butt sprayers had curiously been removed and capped off. Free lockers, cheap laundry service (we even bring our laundry here when staying at hotels with pricey laundry service), internet cafe in the lobby, good hawker stalls out on the soi. Right around the corner from Jim Thomson House, very well-located just a stone's throw from Rama 1/Phayathai intersection to MBK/Siam Sq/Central World Plaza shopping madness and not far from Pratunam. Very close to National Stadium BTS and the Khlong Saen Saeb express boat for quick and easy access to areas of the city not served by BTS or MRT. I would prolly stay here again just for the location and value.

Pretty good value, location - 10th April, 2007
Stayed at A-One Inn on two occasions in March & April 2007. I found the place friendly and comfortable enough, and definitely good value for its great location. The rooms are okay - clean, but a little bit ramshackle overall. With some small repairs and better linen/curtains, the place would feel a lot nicer. As it is, it's still a solid place to stay for a few nights.

Update on the internet situation - 29th October, 2006
just stayed here again and wanted to update on the internet situation. It is still overpriced, but very good service now where they just give you a login and pass and the WiFi is on 24/7. This makes this place a great deal as most places with WiFi are very high end hotels Bangkok at this point. A double room is still 600B, and though they are small, with air-con and TV and the excellent location in addition to WiFi, this is probably the best deal in Bangkok. the staff was quite friendly to me but I did speak a bit of Thai with them which helps.

A great place - 8th November, 2005
The A-One was a pleasant surprise -- excellent location, very clean rooms, cheap price. The hot water wasn't especially hot, the cable TV has only 2 English channels, and the staff was half effusively friendly and half effusively NOT, and internet is way too expensive, but otherwise ok. I wanted to stay here because I work on the internet and wanted a place with WiFi access, but was disappointed in theirs. The owner has to turn on the router and is never there so there is rarely access. When you do get a connection (usually after 7-8pm), it is spotty, cuts off all the time, not especially fast. Overall though, a very good deal.

A-1 Internet cafe
Worth the walk to Siam Square for much better internet cafes.

700 bat, best location - 4th March, 2010
Best location in town. Clean rooms, power AC, exellent foodcort 3 min walk (6 floor MBK). New showers in bathrooms. Can be recommended if Reno-hotel is full, dont forget ear's plugs.

Solid place to crash - 3rd December, 2006
For the area, the price for an air-con room with cable TV (600B) is very reasonable. The rooms aren't gorgeous in any way and the bathroom is a bit cramped, but the mattress is comfy and the people really nice. However, there is an ice factory next door, so you may need earplugs!

Not good, not bad - 22nd November, 2006
This place was reasonably clean and well located (right near MBK and skytrain). Not sure why it has received such good reviews though. Our room was pretty small and the bathroom was minuscule and very difficult to have a shower in. Also, there appears to be some issues with bookings, so make sure you call them on the day to confirm and call again if you are running late.

Good luck / Bad luck - 16th October, 2006
One night first stay was in the room on the ground floor and we couldn't sleep due to the noise, the room was quite dirty (don't look in the corners) and the leaking sink was wobbly, but at that time it was still all right. Two nights second stay, in the second floor, had the same problems as first stay, plus the room was a bit small for two persons. We booked for a third stay more than a week in advance and paid for it. When we phoned just before arriving, they told us that there was no available room! They just put us in a "boxroom" in another guesthouse in the street. And they didn't look sorry at all. Internet is very expensive. The two good points : the laundry service, quick and efficient ; the locker service, cheap and handy (we left a lot of things there during 10 days for just 150B).

Noisy - 7th August, 2006
I called from the airport to check if the A-One had a room and they booked a double room from us. When we arrived, the only room they had was in the basement on the street. The room was very bad and they agreed to put us in another room for the next 2 nights. The second room was on the 4th floor but the air-con was really noisy. Overall, our stay was ok but not more.

Second cheapest guesthouse on the Kasem San 1 - 7th August, 2005
Great location, so-so rooms. Paid 560B for a 'deluxe' double room with air-con, hot water, and satellite TV. Shower is small but great water pressure. Bed linens were threadbare and smelled weird. Staff was super friendly.

Expected more - 13th July, 2005
The raves about this place meant that I expected much more than I got. Internet is expensive and you are much better placed to go to Siam Square and find cheaper Internet access. Rooms a bit tired, but clean. I had heard so much about how friendly this place was but the two girls who work there during the day made me feel as though I was simply a nuisance who interrupted their TV watching. I did meet one of the owners who was really friendly -- just a shame their staff are not the same. Pretty good value considering the location but there is better in that street now.

ok.. not great - 18th May, 2005
The A-One Inn is a good place for one night. It is in a safe and quiet location of Bangkok, but not really clean nor friendly.
