Description
Wendy House has reasonable rooms with air-con and hot water, with perhaps the friendliest staff on Soi Kasem San 1. Downstairs a small cafe with half dozen internet terminals offer email service and snacks in a basic, but pleasant atmosphere. They have books for loan, including travel guides, postcards for sale, newspapers to peruse, Nancy Chandler maps on the walls, wi-fi service, and sell phone cards. An added benefit is the excellent laundry service next door. All around it's the most full-service, best for chilling out in the lobby, guesthouse on the soi. As you will likely be spending all your time out in the city, the rooms themselves are adequate if uninspiring.

Great location, decent place -

Stayed here for 2 nights Feb 08. Agree that accomodation is backpackerish for a ''mid-range'' label, however, rooms are clean, shower good and staff friendly and is a great place to catch the sky train to easliy get around.

If wanted to stay in Siam Square would stay here again.

Inclusive breakfast was mediocre!

Location, location -

We stayed here on our way out of BKK, having stayed in Khao San Road on the way in, to experience a different part of Bangkok. The location is great for shopping, Jim Thompsons House, and getting anywhere on the Sky Train. The rooms were perfectly ok - we had a clean double with AC, hot shower, TV and fridge. The staff were friendly and helpful booking us a taxi to the airport. Included a good breakfast. The room isn't great value if compared to prices in Khao San Road but if you want to stay in this location then it is fine - just don't expect more than backpacker style accomodation.

We loved it! -

Chose to stay away from Khao San road on return to Bangkok and chose here. Arrived after overnight train at 6.30am and only had a couple of hours til room ready (enough time to visit Jim Thomson's house just round the corner). Breakfast was great, the room clean and tidy, shower lovely, and they booked our taxi for a 4.30am departure the next day. Going back there again before flying out of Bangkok for Oz.

Gone downhill, but okay -

Stayed at Wendy House again this year, and I have to say it's gone way downhill. The friendliest receptionist seems to be gone, and the service was now worse and slower. Somehow the entire place felt more tired and a bit rundown too. In any case, the rooms are still okay, if not great, but for 900B you'd expect better.

adequate rather than inspiring -

I agree that the 900 baht rooms aren't especially good value, but the reception staff are friendly and helpful. A very convenient location.

Not particularly cheap, but a great place to stay!! -

Rooms are very clean. The shower is really hot and wonderful. Breakfasts are great. Very friendly staff. Location is convenient. Atmosphere is relaxed. The price is not particularly cheap but worth it! Will stay here again if I visit Bangkok again!

Pricey and needs a faceliftt. -

I paid 900bt for Dbl a/c room. The room was small and on the shabby side. While the day time receptionist was very nice and helpful, the same cannot be said of the waiting staff who were moody and indifferent. There's better places for less money than this.

A bit pricey, but worth it! -

The prices have increased from those reported here. Expect to pay 1000/1100 B for double/twin. In any case, the rooms are nice, the food is excellent especially for vegetarians, as there are many delicious tofu options, and the service comes with the biggest smile in Bangkok! The location of course is the best possible, especially for shopping, and still reasonably quiet.

great place -

I found the staff at this guest house to be friendly and helpful. The rooms were plenty big and comfy, with tv, fridge and good ac. The location is very convenient to public transport and the included breakfasts are tasty. Dinners aren't bad either and, very importantly, the public toilet for restaurant patrons is spotless. I'll stay here again for sure.

Rooms clean but small. AC needed help from the staff to get it going, but once going was fine. Bathrooms big enough that you don't drown the toilet when taking a shower. Breakfast included. I found the staff here to be much more helpful than at A-One Inn.

Reno Hotel
40 Soi Kasem San 1, Rama 1 Road
Don't be fooled by the well-decorated, almost funky lobby. The rooms are blandly standard and have seen better days. All feature aircon and hot water and some have TV. The rooms smell extremely mouldy, but many have balconies that allow you to air them out a bit. The attached Reno Cafe is... more

Muangphol Mansion
931/9 Soi Kasem San 1, Rama 1 Road
Located on the corner of Soi Kasem San 1 and Rama 1, the Muangphol Mansion was once a bright shining example of a decrepit looking firetrap, but it's amazing the difference a coat of paint makes. Aside from painting the outside, the rooms also got a bit of a spruce up, and although still pretty... more
