Wendy House
Friendly service, best facilities on the soi

What we say:
Of all the options on Soi Kasem San, the Wendy House certainly feels the most like a backpacker hang out, albeit at flashpacker prices. There is a large, clean and well-equipped internet cafe on the ground floor and the friendly staff are happy to advise you about things to do in the area. The foyer also proffers books for loan — including travel guides, postcards for sale, newspapers to peruse, Nancy Chandler maps on the walls and phone cards for sale. If you're one for chilling out with fellow travellers in the guesthouse, this is the place for you. There are 38 rooms in total which fill up fast so make sure you book ahead. The rooms themselves are fairly standard affairs and while they won't be winning any design awards they definitely tick all the right boxes. Clean, bright, functional, air-con and well-sized. Free WiFi access is also available in the rooms and breakfast is included. Be careful on the stairs, as they are pretty steep.

nice location...friendly staff
My husband and I stayed at Wendy house for 3 nights. We booked this guesthouse because of the positive travel blogs i read about it and true enough, it left a good impression on me. Wendy House is located in a very good location..very near sky train, MBK and Siam Discovery. When we checked in at around 1am, we were met by very friendly staff and found our room ready. The lobby has a very homey feel and lucky enough our room was at the 2nd floor or else we would be alighting a very steep flight of stairs. The room was ok. Its a best value room. Clean sheets, clean room, clean shower and toilet...we even have a ref and a hair dryer. One think though that didn't quite appeal to us is the same breakfast menu for the whole 3 day stay.. Hope they could have prepared different breakfast menu. But over all, i do recommend Wendy house for budget travellers be it friends or family.

Excellent place
The Wendy House is great for the following reasons: Location - very near to the skytrain, MBK, Siam Centre and street food. Price - this was the best value we could find for the area, vicinity to the skytrain (elderly travellers in tow) and decent size (for BK) air con rooms. Staff - very friendly and helpful. We are never the easiest group to have staying and I am sure most places have a large drink once we've departed, however the Wendy House staff were helpful and gracious on both our visits at the beginning and end of our trip. One of our rooms was affected by some mechancial noise (not the building site, none of the 7 rooms were bothered by that) and staff moved quickly and without any fuss. One especially helpful and kind, I really wish I had gotten her name. Definitely recommended for middle aged to elderly who are on a budget.

Update
Had a look around here again for just the one night, and it's gone further downhill. The 900 baht rooms that seemed overpriced in 2006 have increased to 1100. They're resolutely non guest-friendly and it has now become a non-smoking hotel, which obviously will be great news for some, but not others. basically the Wendy is getting squeezed on this soi by the Reno on the right, which charges 1400 for much much better rooms in a better-appointed hotel with a pool, and on the left by Muangphol Mansion, which somehow manages to charge 300 baht less for rooms that are not any worse (except the tv isn't as good). I suppose the Wendy gives you breakfast, but I'm seldom awake early enough for it when I'm in Bangkok anyway.

Value for money!
Wendy House was recommended by a friend of my fiance living close-by to the guest house. I made an e-mail reservation and they were nice enough to reserve a double room for us even without deposit! We arrived rather late in the night and it was great to check in to Wendy House and sink into the soft mattress! The lady at the front desk is awfully nice and keeps greeting you over and over again whenever she sees you :) The reception area is warm and welcoming with plenty of Internet access points and guidebooks to keep you happy. It is also located very near to MBK and other shopping malls as well as the National Stadium sky train so everything's just a hop, skip and jump away! Breakfast is included in the price you pay for the room so it's great value all round. They even have a laundromat next door open from 8am - 8pm. We left for Kanchanaburi for one night and came back to Wendy House for the rest of our stay in Bangkok. Loved our stay here! :)

Great place!
Stayed here for 3nights at the end of our trip, location was perfect as shopping was the main activity! Had a room on the 4th floor which was a little dumb but not enough stairs to get puffed. Clean bright room. Paid 1100baht and got ac,tv,hot water and breakfast. All this plus the location made it a great place to stay! friendly staff and kinda cheap internet. Definately would stay here again!

Choose Building 2
Agree with the other reviews - not exactly budget accommodation but great location and decent facilities and service. Having stayed here twice, I noted a significant difference in room quality as between Building 1 and 2 (left and right as you enter the guesthouse). You really want #2 which is nice and new, whereas #1 is a little worn though still serviceable. In case you're interested, they have free wifi for guests.

Strategic, clean & friendly
Stayed 3 nights between excursion to Koh Samet. Rooms have a/c, hot water, private bathroom, fridge and TV (with international channels like BBC, Discovery, Star Movies). Choice of a simple American or Asian breakfast. Rooms were clean and service was great. Wendy and Jantima at the front desk were really friendly and helpful. Baggage storage in locked room; minimal rate for overnight (safe place to leave heavy luggage while staying outside BKK) and free for day use (useful after check-out while we roamed the streets before catching our flight). Strategically located between the BTS and Saen Sap canal. If you have an itinerary similar to ours, this place is ideal. MBK: Shopping mall we frequented the most (just ~300m walk away) Siam: Many shopping malls and small fashion outlets in this area (1 BTS stop) Platinum Fashion mall: Clothes heaven (1 canal boat stop) Chatuchak weekend market: (Mo Chit BTS station) Eastern Bus Terminal: Intercity bus to Ban Phe and onward ferry to Koh Samet (Ekkamai BTS station) Airport: Cheap a/c public bus #551 direct to Suvarnabhumi Airport (Victory Monument BTS station)

comfy
I cant compare to others but staying here was a pleasant experience and I would suggest it for many reasons, clean (small) rooms but very well located and extremely helpful and informative staff. Would have stayed longer if we could

home away from home
The atmosphere at Wendy's is great. everyone is very helpful, the included breakfast a blessing in disguise really. They also have a lot of travel guides that you can read while having a snack or a beer downstairs. It was nice coming ''home'' after a busy day in bangkok, with free water and a good bathroom. The location is fantastic as well, as it is also close to a water taxi stop. The price was 1000 Baht for a double with fan and TV, including breakfast

Great location, decent place
Stayed here for 2 nights Feb 08. Agree that accomodation is backpackerish for a ''mid-range'' label, however, rooms are clean, shower good and staff friendly and is a great place to catch the sky train to easliy get around. If wanted to stay in Siam Square would stay here again. Inclusive breakfast was mediocre!

Location, location
We stayed here on our way out of Bangkok, having stayed in Khao San Road on the way in, to experience a different part of Bangkok. The location is great for shopping, Jim Thompsons House, and getting anywhere on the Sky Train. The rooms were perfectly ok - we had a clean double with air-con, hot shower, TV and fridge. The staff were friendly and helpful booking us a taxi to the airport. Included a good breakfast. The room isn't great value if compared to prices in Khao San Road but if you want to stay in this location then it is fine - just don't expect more than backpacker style accommodation.

We loved it!
Chose to stay away from Khao San road on return to Bangkok and chose here. Arrived after overnight train at 6.30am and only had a couple of hours til room ready (enough time to visit Jim Thomson's house just round the corner). Breakfast was great, the room clean and tidy, shower lovely, and they booked our taxi for a 4.30am departure the next day. Going back there again before flying out of Bangkok for Oz.

Gone downhill, but okay
Stayed at Wendy House again this year, and I have to say it's gone way downhill. The friendliest receptionist seems to be gone, and the service was now worse and slower. Somehow the entire place felt more tired and a bit rundown too. In any case, the rooms are still okay, if not great, but for 900B you'd expect better.

Adequate rather than inspiring
I agree that the 900 baht rooms aren't especially good value, but the reception staff are friendly and helpful. A very convenient location.

Not particularly cheap, but a great place to stay!!
Rooms are very clean. The shower is really hot and wonderful. Breakfasts are great. Very friendly staff. Location is convenient. Atmosphere is relaxed. The price is not particularly cheap but worth it! Will stay here again if I visit Bangkok again!

Pricey and needs a faceliftt.
I paid 900bt for Dbl a/c room. The room was small and on the shabby side. While the day time receptionist was very nice and helpful, the same cannot be said of the waiting staff who were moody and indifferent. There's better places for less money than this.

A bit pricey, but worth it!
The prices have increased from those reported here. Expect to pay 1000/1100 B for double/twin. In any case, the rooms are nice, the food is excellent especially for vegetarians, as there are many delicious tofu options, and the service comes with the biggest smile in Bangkok! The location of course is the best possible, especially for shopping, and still reasonably quiet.

great place
I found the staff at this guest house to be friendly and helpful. The rooms were plenty big and comfy, with tv, fridge and good ac. The location is very convenient to public transport and the included breakfasts are tasty. Dinners aren't bad either and, very importantly, the public toilet for restaurant patrons is spotless. I'll stay here again for sure.
