Description
Built in June 2006, and set for a two-fold expansion in late 2007, this International Youth Hostel offers a range of options from air-con dormitories through to spacious three-bed standard rooms. All rooms, including the dorms, come with cable tv and fridge, multiple bathrooms and a choice of mixed, and single sex dorms, though note the air-con only gets switched on if there are more than three to the room. All rooms are bright, clean, and lack the musty smell of most older, budget accommodation. Along with the dorms there are also single, double and triple rooms, though they're not as well priced as the dormitories, which, for this area of Sukhumvit are a steal. Rates include breakfast (ABF for private rooms, continental for dorms) and there's also a comfortable common area outside. Very friendly, English speaking staff make this an outstanding choice for the area. Recommended.

It's only 3 minutes from the Skytrain and Metro so very convenient for getting around. You can join their membership scheme on arrival for 200 baht and immediately save that much on a single room for one night.

Not much in the way of character but getting a good-sized single room with air con, TV, fridge and private bathroom in Bangkok for 800 baht a night is excellent value.

Big John's Guesthouse
Sukhumvit 55 (Thong Lo) Soi 9, Bangkok
Big John has relocated around the corner down Thong Lo soi 9 from the old guesthouse location on the main road. For a traveller who wants to stay in this part of Bangkok, Big John's represents reasonable value. Well away from Khao San Road, but very handy to bus, boat and BTS connections for access... more
