Description
Comprised of a rambling collection of wooden and concrete buildings hidden down a Sukhumvit Soi 11 subsoi, Suk 11 is one of Bangkok's top backpacker guesthouses. Friendly English-speaking staff and comfortable, reasonably quiet rooms make this an ideal spot to relax in one of Bangkok's most vibrant areas. The rooms are clean, though basic and all rooms include breakfast. The common area and open-air cafe on the sub-soi are ideal for mingling with other guests. Reservations are usually required -- particularly in high season. Recommended.

One of the better values in Bangkok. The ambience is a little strange and the room decorations are bare-bones, but everything is very functional and clean. The abundance of sex tourists in the Sukhumvit area is definitely off-putting, but there's also tons of great food and it's a perfect base for exploring Bangkok -- with the Skytrain and metro nearby, we didn't have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk the entire time we were there. We accidentally left some stuff in the lobby before we left the country and one of the staff members was kind enough to mail it to us (at our expense, or course, but it was refreshing to see that sort of dedication from the staff at a budget place).

Well they must have lost the friendly staff. We checked in and checked out within 10 minutes because of the rude obnoxious guys at the front desk.

Stayed there in January: the place is very nice and has a lot of character. The room was clean and overall quite pleasant and the bathroom was nice as well. Breakfast is also included in the price. There's a nice atmosphere, plus is conveniently located very close to skytrain stop (Nana). I'd definitely stay there again.

I tried to contact Suk11 to find out if there was a room available. They answered me once, and when I replied and asked to book the room they didn't answer at all. I sent them another mail a week later and still no answer.

Clean and spacious rooms with air-con, friendly staff who speak good English and easy to meet other travellers. Very close to lots of restaurants and bars and the SkyTrain. 7-eleven around the corner where you can buy beer and sit outside the hostel and meet other travellers. We'll definitely be back!

Stayed there at the beginning of December 2005. It's good: bed comfortable, hot shower, people friendly, beautiful decoration, but for that price, I'd rather stay around Khao San Road.

I stayed at Suk 11 again in December and have to say it was just as good as ever. Excellent location near sky train and helpful staff. Where this nonsense about it being dirty comes from I don't know on all the occasions I have stayed it has been spotless.

I enjoyed my stay so much at Suk 11. You not only get a room, but an experience as well. The place has so much culture and the staff are very helpful. This is a wonderful place to stay and meet other travellers.

Stayed with my family (five pax) in a quadruple at Suk11. The place has lots of character, and is a nice hideout if, for some reason, you want to stay in this part of Bangkok. Only problem is that we found it dirty. During our one month holiday in Thailand, this was the only place were we had to wear shoes in the room.

The Atlanta
78 Sukhumvit Soi 2, Bangkok
This institution opened in 1952, and not a skerrick appears to have changed since then. It's still a bit of a shame as the foyer promises mystery and charm but the rooms themselves are dreary. As it is, the Atlanta is often full, with people seduced by the foyer, quirky pool and eclectic notices... more
Miami Hotel
2 Sukhumvit Rd, Soi 13
This old hotel features aging rooms with prices typical of the area for the quality. The Miami is a similar spot to the Atlanta Hotel, rundown but friendly. In its favour it boasts a particularly deep swimming pool, providing welcome relief for tourists unused to Bangkok's steamy heat -- some say... more
Soi 1 Guesthouse
220/7-8 Sukhumvit Soi 1, Bangkok
This guesthouse specialises in dorm rooms of different sizes: Rooms with 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 beds are available. The rooms are big, but once they are filled with bunk beds, there isn't much space to move around, and the smaller rooms contain only beds and nothing else but a shower. For those who opt... more
