Chitanun Guest House
Cramped resort-style guesthouse

What we say:
With its attractive bungalows and formally landscaped grounds, Chitanun has the feel of a guesthouse trying to look more like a resort. The bungalows are comfortable, but a little cramped and oddly laid out. Most accommodation is looking a little worn -- the fan rooms in the buildings at the far end of the gardens have seen better days. The best of the bunch here are the air-con bungalows closer to reception, as they have more character than the rest. The rooms here are comfortable and the grounds nicely kept, but these rooms aren't particularly good value. Note also that this guesthouse is across the street from the Kwai, so there isn't much of a riverside atmosphere.

Nice place
Staying here now for 4 nights in the 250B/night fan room. It is all new looking -- like it was finished yesterday. Very peaceful. Lots of birds singing everywhere and the gardens are beautiful. Very quiet at night... except for the birds and frogs! All windows are screened, so no skeeters and the lady at the front smiles whenever I see her. Would recommend to anyone.

Overpriced and unfriendly
I stayed in Chitanun first time in December 2005 (then their bungalow was 400B and the service was friendly). Now -- in November 2008 -- we booked a bungalow by telephone. They asked us to pay the full price per bank transfer in advance, which we did, for 800B per night, because of the 'light and sound at the bridge over the river Kwae', as they said. When we got there, it was a. not fully booked and b. walk-in guests paid 650B. The lady at the reception didn't have a smile. The bungalows are in a bad condition. The mosquito shutters don't help, because there are cracks behind the wooden planks. Loud neighbours can ruin your sleep. Stay away. Too expensive and unfriendly!
