Phonpailin Riverside Resort
Flashest digs in town

What we say:
Set at the far end of the village, the Phonpailin Riverside Resort is easily the flashest hotel in Sangkhlaburi. The resort has two main options: massive rooms with verandas underneath the restaurant and a set of bungalows running out to the south of the restaurant. The bungalows are quite well designed, with spectacular views and lots of glass, giving them a light and airy atmosphere. The rooms underneath the restaurant are oddly the more expensive -- we'd suggest the bungalows to be better value. The atmosphere at Phonpailin can feel a little starched and formal, so while it's comfortable, it might not be the most relaxing spot. The staff are cheery, though English can be a bit of a challenge. The restaurant here gets very good reports and has stunning views over the lake.

Okay but nothing special
It was no highlight but our room was clean and we had a stunning view from our balcony including a first-class-sunset. We stayed there for one night and it was okay for that. Restaurant was very good.

Gross and overpriced
Friend and I just stayed one night there this weekend and were not impressed. The 1,000B room was dirty, musty and various bugs were seen. It was carpeted and clearly hadn't been vacuumed in a while. The bathroom light didn't work properly which was probably a blessing as the bathroom was dirty as well. We checked out after just one night (had planned to stay two). There are better and cheaper places to stay in Sangkhlaburi.
