Market Motel

Easily Aran's best

What we say: 4 stars

Near the day market on Ratuthit Road, Market Motel has a range of rooms that offer the best value in town. The 300 baht fan editions are in a strip motel set-up and while these are spartan, dark and a bit dingy, they are spacious and the sheets fresh and clean. The 400 baht air-con room has more windows and is a big step up for just 100 baht more, but the 500 baht superior room in a newer two-storey building boasts spotless tile floors, comfortable queen size beds and modern bathrooms -- we'd take these over Aran Mermaid's 980 baht rooms any day. All rooms (even the cheapest) come with free WiFi, fridges, TVs and hot water. Staff are young and friendly, there's an inviting cafe serving decent Thai food and Western breakfasts, and the motel even has a pool set back from the road. It's a five-minute walk from the train or bus stations, but staff can arrange transport to the border.
